HOW TO STAY HEALTHY ESPECIALLY, DURING THE FASTING PERIOD AND AFTER

Fasting season is a time when one barely eats three square meals as ideal for everyone. So one thing to do is to plan, nothing is achieved without planning.

HOW TO TAKE A BALANCED MEAL EVEN WHEN FASTING

To remain healthy when you fast and after the fasting season.

• The Six basic nutrients to be taken always are: Carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, mineral, water.

• Carbohydrates

 like: Rice, bread, wheat, millet, plantain, yam etc. are all energy giving food rick in starch, sugar, fibre, glucose, cellulose and pectin.

• Protein

like: fish, eggs, milk, meat, nuts, beans, etc. are foods that help in repairing the body tissues and protect the body against infections.

• Fats & oils

like: margarine, shea butter, lard, etc. They provide heat & energy for the body.

• Minerals are found in

: milk, cheese, green vegetables, egg, fish, etc. These foods are rich in sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, and iodine, and should be taken.

• Vitamins:

Vitamin A promotes good health & development. It is found in palm oil, okra, all green and yellow vegetables & fruits, dairy etc.

Vitamin B; Vitamin B1 is found in cereals e.g. brown bread, groundnuts, peas, beans, yeast, etc.

Vitamin B2 is found in eggs, beef, etc.

Vitamin C

– The popularly known vitamin which is very essential is found in fresh fruits, particularly citrus fruits e.g. oranges, grape-fruit, tangerine, lemon, etc. other foods that contain vit. C are cabbage, tomatoes, etc.

Vitamin D/ sunshine vitamin is found in fatty fish e.g. herrings and dairy products.

Vitamin E is found in cereals, green vegetables, meat, milk and eggs.

Vitamin K is found in green plants e.g. cabbage, green peas, etc.

• Water

: drinking water helps the body to regulate and eliminate waste products.

Taking a balanced meal prevents the body from diseases.
